The one value this site stores
There is no analytics on this site, no advertising, and no attempt to recognise you across other websites. One value is written to your own browser, for one reason, and you can remove it yourself in a few seconds.
What is stored
A single entry in your browser's local storage records that you have dismissed the notice at the bottom of the screen. It holds a short marker and nothing else: no name, no address, no reference to anything you have read or sent us.
It stays on your device. It is not transmitted back to the server, it is not readable by any other website, and it cannot be joined up with an enquiry you sent through the form.
Why it exists
Without it, the notice would reappear on every page and on every visit, which is irritating on a site people open at a petrol station with one bar of signal. That is the entire justification.
If you would rather not have it, press the option that keeps it off. The notice may then show again next time, and the site works exactly as well either way.
What we do not use
No analytics product, no advertising network, no tracking pixel, no fingerprinting script, no social media embed, no content delivery script loaded from somewhere else that could watch you on our behalf.
That means we cannot tell you how many people read a route guide, which we accept. The route guides are not sold to anyone, so the number would only flatter us.
Clearing it yourself
Every current browser lets you clear site data for a single site from its settings, usually under privacy or site permissions. Doing that for this site removes the value immediately and leaves nothing behind.
Private or incognito browsing discards it when you close the window, so if that is how you browse, nothing persists at all.
Technical necessities
The server needs to receive the usual request information to send you a page at all, and it keeps a short-lived technical log for security and fault finding. That is a property of how the web works rather than a choice we made.
Those logs are not tied to the stored browser value and are discarded on a short cycle.
If this changes
Should we ever add anything that stores more than the single value described above, this page will say so plainly and the notice will ask again rather than assume your earlier answer still applies.
